Ernie was a close neighbor and friend during our early years growing up in Mavie, Minnesota. I will always remember he and Marie’s willingness to lend us Oski girls comic books from their vast collection. To help us pass the summer days when we weren’t helpingvourcdadvin the fields. I am sad to hear of his passing and appreciare the thoughtful tribute you have written Shari. Sometimes we lose track of people who were important influences is our. Ernest(Ernie)Breznay, 79, passed away on 3/24/2019 at Lund Hospice Home in Chandler, AZ. Ernie was born in Thief River Falls, MN on February 28, 1940 to George and Louise Breznay. He grew up in Mavie, MN, and graduated from Goodridge high school in 1957. He received a bachelor of science degree in industrial education and physical education from Bemidji College, Bemidji, MN in 1961 and a masters degree in industrial education in 1971 from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. On June 3, 1967, he married Shari Anne Vadnie. They raised four sons. A life long educator for 50 years, Ernie taught industrial arts, physical education and coached in Sawyer, Wilton. and Hope North Dakota. He was also school principal in Hope for 7 years. Ernie worked for the State Board for Career and Technical Education at the state capital in Bismarck, ND as a supervisor, assistant director, and deputy director. Upon completion of his work with the State Board he concluded his career in technical education in West Fargo. Ernie had a passion for woodworking and remodeled five homes in his lifetime including his beloved lake home on Height of Land Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN where he retired with Shari in 2010. He had many interests including stamp and coin collecting. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed books on the Civil War. Ernie would like to be remembered as a person who loved working with and teaching young people. He was actively involved in his sons lives as a scout leader, coach, and attended all of their school activities. He loved going to the Twins and Vikings games and ski trips with his family. His greatest joy after he retired from the State Board was providing daycare to his grandaughter, Alexandra. They had many wonderful adventures together. Ernie leaves behind his wife, Shari, sons Michael(Cigdem)Golden, CO, David(Angie)Fargo, ND, Chris(Huyen)Denver, CO, Chad(Nika)Bozeman, MT., grandaughter Alexandra Breznay(New Braunfels, TX) grandson Bryce Breznay(Bozeman, MT), sister, Marie Breznay, Thief River Falls, MN, mother-in-law, Velda Vadnie, Chandler AZ, and brothers-in-law Joel Vadnie, Moorhead, MN, and Marlin(Pam)Vadnie , Nashville, TN. He is peceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, and a brother who died in infancy A memorial service to celebrate Ernie’s life will be held at a later date this summer.
